There’s only one letter between Medication and Meditation. The humour of this entertained me this morning, as my hip and knees were tired and sore after workouts, and I had to choose whether to treat it with ibuprofen or introspection. 🩵
When life’s driving you completely bonkers, you might wanna decide which you need ⚡
💊 Medication:
“Take this”
🧘♀️ Meditation:
“Sit down and breathe”
💊 Medication:
“May cause drowsiness”
🧘♀️ Meditation:
“May cause you to realise just how bldy tense you are”
💊 Medication:
“Take with water”
🧘♀️ Meditation:
“Take three deep breaths and notice your feelings”
One of ’em sounds a helluva lot healthier and easier. 🌈
Hang on though, its not time to flush prescriptions down the loo and give all you doctors out there a panic attack. I’m obviously NOT suggesting meditation is a replacement for medication. 🩺
But I am suggesting we do sometimes reach for the wrong solutions … 💡
You’re tired – get coffee. ☕ You’re stressed – get wine. 🍷 You’re bored – get biscuits. 🍪 You’re overwhelmed – you doom scroll for 47 minutes. 📱 You’re exhausted – you keep going anyway. 🔋 You’ve reached Friday – you feel you’ve been run over by a bus. 🚌
What you actually need is something else. ✨
STOP for 60 seconds, and do this … 🛑
Put your phone down. 📵 Drop your shoulders. 💆♀️ Unclench your jaw. 😬 Close your eyes. 🙈 Take three slow breaths in and out. 🌬️ And ask yourself: “What do I actually need right now?” 🤔
Not what you fancy. Not what will distract you. Not what will numb you. 🙅♀️
But what do you actually need? Clue – could be any of the following … 🔍
Sleep 😴
Movement 🏃♀️
Saying No 🛑
Fresh air 🍃
A good laugh 😂
Genuinely need medication 💊
Or maybe you just need to stop behaving as though you’re a 24-hour emergency service. 🚑
You are allowed to pause. In fact, I highly recommend it. 🌿
And if all else fails…there’s always chocolate. 🍫
I’m a Personal Trainer, not a miracle worker. 😉
Lotsa love ❤️ Noelle x
