A client told me recently that she had lost 4 stone (HURRAY!!). She then told me that someone had told her that she had done this “the wrong way” and that she felt really BAD about this. READ ON to find out what I said.
There are many ways to lose weight – it can be a bit of a minefield.
DEEP BREATH… You can drop the dress sizes by calorie controlled diet, starving yourself, eating sensibly, and simply dropping or reducing the junk. There are a vast number of different “diets” out there, like The Atkins Diet, keto, watching your macros, or following Noom. Of course, there are slimming clubs which you can join, like Weight Watchers or Slimming World. You can simply stay in bed all day and do/eat nothing. Doctors might prescribe fat loss medication, or even ultra low-calorie diets like Lighter Life, with their shakes and meal replacements. For some, just giving up alcohol will help with weight loss. Others love to lose fat with exercise and start walking every day, or take up an active hobby like badminton, or sports. You might choose exercise classes, Zumba, Boxercise, Circuits, HIIT Training, Cross Training, Dance – there are so many! Others decide to join a gym. In that gym, you can do cardio, or weights. With weights, you can lift lots of weight or not much. Cardio, you can sit on an exercise bike for 2 hours, and do intervals. Or do half and half, maybe …??
All in all, starting weight loss and exercise can be very confusing and intimidating. But you make a start with something, and hopefully, it does result in you losing weight. And of course, you are delighted.
But then someone comes along and says you did it the wrong way. And because of this, you’ve wrecked everything.
This can be devastating … as it was with my client who had lost 4 stones. She was told that although she’d lost 4 stone, she had lost weight the wrong way and lost muscle instead of fat.
Poor woman felt so un-empowered, embarrassed, and sorry for herself that she started to self-sabotage, and resumed comfort eating again. And her weight went back on.
When I hear this I always say the same thing. If that were you in that situation –
👗 I say that NO weight loss is bad.
👗I reassure you that all pounds off that tummy are good.
👗I tell you that you’ve made her body healthier by reducing weight.
👗I restore your self-confidence by asking you to consider all the ways that your shape and your life have changed for the better, after weight loss.
BUT … and there’s always a but ….. from this point on you need to get balance in your weight loss to make it a lifestyle change and learn how to keep excess weight off permanently, and without effort.
IT CAN BE DONE!!
This lady – Caron – has lost weight, put it back on again, and again … and now corrected it so she’s controlling her weight loss the right way.
Caron is not the lady in the story above. But she came to me after trying and trying to lose weight permanently by simply controlling her food intake by following a diet. She was concerned about exercising due to health fears.
Lovely Caron has now changed her life, her lifestyle, and her body. She’s lost over 7 stone and keeps it off with balanced eating and healthy, fun exercise in her life.
She has become the glamorous, clothes-loving, and energetic mum and grandma that she deserves to be.
