There’s so much flippin’ talk about it, I can get a bit fed up with news about Menopause tbh. But its still good to hear the taboos about it being broken by celebs like Davina McCall.
The fitness industry has jumped right on that bandwagon and – quite rightly – started providing specialist workouts claiming to be beneficial to “menopause sufferers” (like it was an illness).
How can you know if their claims are true?
How can you be sure that its the right one for your changing body and brain as you get older? Here’s my best tip.
Be sceptical … very very sceptical. Use your intuition. Follow rules like this.
If ANY workout claiming to ”help with menopause”, or “for women 40+” starts off with star jumps, or a deep forward fold please AVOID.
I know what happens to a body during and after menopause (I’m 61).
I know pelvic floor doesn’t belong to you any more.
I know that when you jump up and down there is NO control over what happens.
I know that when you stand up sometimes noises come out (yes).
I know joints can stiffen, lose stability, and hurt.
I know bodies feel tired – exhausted – nackered.
I know what felt good “before”, might not feel so great “after”.
I don’t run any more.
I don’t jump up and down (so much) any more.
I do warm up slowly and carefully.
I do feed and water myself well – most of the time.
I do listen to my body.
It’s why workouts like this one get so many views and so much love.
WARNING.
There are many Trainers out there on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram, claiming to “help” women in this demographic. Trust me, many have absolutely no idea what they are doing.
